Before interviewing, it is best to ensure that you know the details of the medical job that you are hiring for. Preparing in advance and having this information readily available will make you more comfortable, the interview will go much smoother, and it will be easier to sell the position to the candidate.

Job Requirements. What are the minimum qualifications?  What are the physical and mental components of the position? What type of education is required? Does he or she need to have additional certifications?

Experience. What must the candidate know in order to work in the environment? Does the candidate need to have prior experience? Are you open to hiring new graduates?

Schedule. Is this a 9-5 job? Is there call involved? Are weekend shifts required? Are night shifts required?

Location. Does this position require travel? Is a car provided? Do you reimburse for mileage? Does the candidate have to work in different departments?

Compensation. Are there performance incentives or differentials? Is this a salaried position or hourly? Do you offer sign on bonuses? Are you paying for relocation? Are there opportunities to make more money? Does the compensation package meet or exceed your competition?

Typical Day. Have you communicated with other employees that work in the same department about what a typical day looks like? Is this position new to the company and if so have you implemented a plan for this position?
